The name has been a given from the early intentions in the 90s: "Rockhouse” … today, after countless endeavours, fights, changes, etc. it is stronger rooted in Salzburg's culture scene than ever. The managers as initiators, musicians and humans perceive it as more than just a name. The term is the incarnation of something different. Always new, always fluctuating.
An institution like Rockhouse doesn't have to fulfil any obligations but to follow an actual want, which is to live culture.
Making culture comprehensible, provoking a sensual process of sensitisation. Not treating culture as a shallow term, but reflecting changes – social, ecological, political phenomenas – and to always integrate them into the working process.
The music club is THE address in Salzburg for diverse rock, pop and indie concerts. Around 300 concerts and events take place every year in the big hall inside the Kapuzinerberg. The Rockhouse-Bar has also proved to be a great meeting point for music enthusiasts in Salzburg.
Rockhouse Salzburg plays a crucial role not only as an event organiser but also as a supporter and promoter of young musicians. The "Xtra Ordinary – Neue Töne aus Salzburg” production provides a platform for various newcomer bands from Salzburg, it helps them publish their music.
Rockhouse offers the perfect alternative to the highly cultural events in the city of Mozart; in a casual atmosphere it is a platform for modern music away from classical music. Alternative/indie/rock, evergreens, hard'n'heavy, punk, hip hop, jazz, pop, reggae and all the sub-genres but also cabaret shows are all on the Rockhouse Salzburg programme which delights Salzburg locals as well as tourists.
