Salzburg with Kids

Despite other opinions, we think that some cities are perfect for a vacation with children and Salzburg is for sure one of them. Numerous sights that amaze little ones, day trips for young and old as well as great events make the city of Mozart a diverse holiday destination. Discover the best playgrounds in Salzburg with us.

Salzburg’s Sights for Kids

What do children want to see when they are on a city holiday? There is usually not much interest in old castles and palaces, but if there is a nice big playground nearby, parents are welcome to take their time with sightseeing and pictures. At Hellbrunn Palace, for example, the palace park has an 8.000 m² play area. Right next door, you'll find the large Salzburger Zoo — if that's not a nice coincidence...

Within a few minutes’ walk from our hotel, you can spend some quality family time at the House of Nature. In Salzburg's most popular museum many interactive games about nature, technology and the underwater world are inviting children to discover science in a playful way.

The Fortress Hohensalzburg also offers an exciting holiday program for kids in the summer. And thanks to the special children's audio guide, the family-friendly tours are anything but boring.

If the weather doesn't suit you, there is also the largest toy collection in Austria to explore: little tinkerers and adventurers can fiddle their way through the worlds of experience at the Toy Museum. Whether scientific, historical, or technical: discover many other museums for children around and in Salzburg.

Day trips for Families in Salzburger Land

If you are travelling with children to Salzburg, you should definitely go on excursions into nature, for example, to the Krimml Waterfalls. In addition to the impressive waterfalls, there is an underwater adventure world, exhibitions for children and an aqua park. In short: Welcome to the Krimml Worlds of Water.

What would a visit to Salzburg be without getting to know the city's origins? Two salt mines in the surrounding area promise lots of family fun: at the Salzwelten Hallein you go straight to the heart of the mountain, while a magical salt room and a salt cathedral await you at the Berchtesgaden Salt Mine.
