Sights in Berchtesgaden

Berchtesgadener Land – worth a visit

Take an idyllic ride through the beautiful Berchtesgadener Land and at the same time an adventurous round trip through the Bavarian Alpine world.

Kehlsteinhaus, Teehaus, Königssee …

Past the legendary Untersberg and the picturesque farm towns the path leads up to Obersalzberg at 1,000 metres above sea level. It is here where the road to Kehlsteinhaus ("Eagle's Nest”), one of Europe's most beautiful mountain roads, starts; it is only accessible for regional busses. A lift will take you to Teehaus, which is located at 1,834 metres. It was a present for Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday. The views over the Salzburg Land and the Tyrolean and Berchtesgadener mountain world from up here are just marvellous.

Another place to see in the Berchtesgadener Land is Königssee. Embedded between the steep mountains, the most famous being Watzmann, the lake is considered to be a natural pearl in South Bavaria. This gorgeous lake is perfect for a boat ride on the crystal clear water.

Alte Saline Bad Reichenhall

Famous as the "world's most beautiful saline”, the Alte Saline in Bad Reichenhall is one of the must-sees during your trip to the Berchtesgadener Land. Discover the "gem in neo-romantic style” and take part in the tour through the ramified network of tunnels and grottos while listening to thrilling stories about the brine deposit and tapping of the spring as well as the origins and processing of salt, the white gold of the Alps. Salzburg Card holders benefit from a 20% discount on the entrance fee. Get more information on www.alte-saline-bad-reichenhall.de.

Loco world Freilassing

Only a few minutes away from Salzburg you will find the loco world in Freilassing. If you are interested in technology and transport then you are perfectly right here: marvel at the lovingly renovated exhibits and the huge model railway right on the railway line between Munich and Salzburg. Or discover the "small loco world” with your children as well as many other things from 150 years of train technology.

The museum is open from Friday to Sunday between 10am and 5pm. Get further information on www.lokwelt.freilassing.de.

Berchtesgaden salt mine

Go on a "salt journey” in the Berchtesgaden salt mine and get to know more about the history of the local miners. Equipped with a functional overall you walk through the ca. 150 metre long tunnel and discover various attractions. Adventure-seekers will also get their money's worth with a slide and a ride over Lake Spiegelsee.
