Experience Salzburg from the water

A very special experience during your city trip in Salzburg is a boat trip on the River Salzach. From May to September you can take a city boat trip with the "Amadeus” panorama boat and marvel at the city of Mozart from the water. In former times it was mostly salt transporters that were seen on the River Salzach. They also gave the river its name (Salz being the German word for "salt”). The attempt to transport passengers had to be stopped in 1891 due to weak machines and the many shallow banks. It was in the same year that the last passenger ship ran on Salzach.

Welcome aboard!

More than a century later a passenger ship was introduced on Salzach. Since 2002 the "Amadeus Salzburg” panorama boat offers guests in Salzburg the highlight of their Salzburg stay.

The "Amadeus Salzburg"

The modern passenger ship offers 60 seats and a weather deck. Inside the boat you also enjoy wonderful panoramic views over the city and its surroundings thanks to the big windows. The ship draws 38cm, which allows trips even at the shallow parts of the River Salzach. With 800 hp the boat accelerates up to 50km/h.

Choose for yourself what you prefer: a romantic boat trip in the evening or a combination with a visit at the Salzburg Festival concerts, it's up to you. You can also combine your Salzburg boat trip with a visit at Hellbrunn Palace with its Salzburg Zoo and the 400-year old water games and on your way back enjoy the special experience of a ride on the double-decker bus.
